The Pilsen Philharmonic is an ensemble with a respectable tradition. The present name was first used in 1934, but the orchestra history started back in 1882. In the present legal form, Pilsen Philharmonic was founded by the city of Pilsen in 1998.
During its existence, the orchestra has developed a strong tradition and reputation and also has become a popular and desired ensemble abroad. Nowadays, it takes numerous concert tours and has performed at prestigious concert halls in Europe and the USA. Pilsen Philharmonic regularly records for the Czech Radio, continuing the tradition from the years 1946 - 1993, in which it functioned as Pilsen Radio Orchestra. The orchestra also records for other labels and has made hundreds of recordings from the baroque to the contemporary music.
Pilsen Philharmonic is a member ASOPS - Association of Symphony Orchestras and Choirs of the Czech Republic and since 2013 an organizer of the international interdisciplinary Smetana Days festival in Pilsen. The principal conductor since September 2013 became Tomáš Brauner, Ronald Zollman is the principal guest conductor.
